Ellen Beach Mack Rehabilitation Center for Employment and Independence (EBMRCEI)


Medical Services

During your training, the EBMRCEI has medical staff available to assist you with minor medical issues that may arise. Should you need emergency medical care, EBMRCEI staff will assist in you receiving medical attention from one the local hospitals in the Columbia area.


The dormitory can accommodate 36 people and has the following features:

  • Each dormitory room has double occupancy.
  • There are three efficiency apartments used for simulated independent-living training.
  • There are three dayrooms: one on the men’s end of the dormitory, one on the women’s dormitory and one co-ed lounge located in the center of the dorm floor.
  • There is a blind-accessible resource room equipped Internet-capable computers.
  • All rooms are nonsmoking
  • Each room has a mini-fridge, desk and chair, dresser, nightstand, closet and bed.
  • Staff is available 24 hours a day, Monday-Friday.


The cafeteria is operated by a blind licensed vendor and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Special meals are available if you have dietary restrictions.


Transportation to and from the EBMRCEI is provided by the South Carolina Commission for the Blind at no cost. A driver will pick you up on Monday morning to go to the center for the week and take you home on Friday afternoon. Our transportation services are not available on holidays.


We have a gym and weight room for recreational purposes.
