Vocational Rehabilitation
Deaf-Blind Services
As part of the Vocational Rehabilitation program, the South Carolina Commission for the Blind provides specialized services for consumers who are deaf-blind (having both vision and hearing loss).
Eligibility
Eligibility for services is based on the following:
- Seeking services to prepare for, enter in or retain gainful employment
- Having a central visual acuity of 20/200 in the better eye with best corrective lens or a visual field of 20 degrees or less (legal blindness)
- Having a progressive visual disability that will result in legal blindness
- Having a hearing loss
- Requiring and benefiting from Vocational Rehabilitation services
- Living in South Carolina
Services
The Vocational Rehabilitation division may provide the following services based on eligibility:
- Counseling and guidance
- Educational assistance
- Coordination of community resources
- Vocational evaluation
- Comprehensive assessment
