Vocational Rehabilitation

Deaf Blind

As part of the Vocational Rehabilitation program, the South Carolina Commission for the Blind provides specialized services for consumers who are Deafblind (having both vision and hearing loss).


Eligibility for services is based on the following:

  • Seeking services to prepare for, enter in or retain gainful employment
  • Having a central visual acuity of 20/200 in the better eye with best corrective lens or a visual field of 20 degrees or less (legal blindness)
  • Having a progressive visual disability that will result in legal blindness
  • Having a hearing loss
  • Requiring and benefiting from Vocational Rehabilitation services
  • Living in South Carolina

Services Provided

The Vocational Rehabilitation division may also provide the following services based on eligibility:

  • Counseling and guidance
  • Educational assistance
  • Coordination of community resources
  • Vocational evaluation
  • Comprehensive assessment
