Low vision is loss of vision that cannot be corrected through the use of glasses, contact lenses, medications or surgery. The Commission for the Blind provides services that teach you how to use aids, such as magnifiers and sunshields to enhance visual acuity.
Our low-vision evaluation includes acuity, field and light-sensitivity testing. We help you determine which aids would be best for you and how to use them. We also offer follow-up sessions with one of our counselors.
We partner with optometrists and ophthalmologists throughout the state to provide services that may enhance remaining vision and improve quality of life. These services are free.
Our low-vision clinics are located in Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Walterboro, and York.
Appointments are coordinated by commission staff. If you are not a current consumer of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, call 888-335-5951 for more information.
